The Veterans Launching Ventures program is an 8 week program designed to transform an idea into a business plan. Sponsored by the Rothman Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Fairleigh Dickinson University, it culminates in a pitch competition to a panel of judges with the winning company walking away with a $500 check and lifelong guidance and mentorship.

Startup Grind Princeton’s first pitch competition hosted 10 great startup companies from the tri state area at Tiger Labs in Princeton, NJ. A 7-minute pitch with 2 minutes of Q & A from a panel of judges was served with a bit of a twist. Prior to the competition, it was announced the time would be decreased from 7-min to 5-min to throw the companies a curveball.

Liberty Science Center invited us to host a booth at their innovation station for their After Dark event. It was a great opportunity to show the creative and scientific audience of Liberty Science what Ribbit is all about!

We hosted our first team event that involved walking the streets of Jersey City collecting trash – everything from cups, cans, straws, wrappers, plastic bags, plastic bottles, plastic utensils, styrofoam blocks, poop bags, and even things we couldn’t identify (gross). In just 1.65 miles, we filled 12 large bags.

Ooma, a VoIP company out of California, hosted a pitch competition at the Varick Street WeWork in New York City. The competition was quite unique in that each member in the audience received a virtual $10k to invest in the presenting company and at the end of the competition, the company with the most money won. Out of 10 companies we placed 3rd.

The NJ Tech Council hosted its 22nd annual Venture Conference which showcases the region’s most promising companies and offers insights from many of the nation’s top investors. We conducted a 90 second pitch in front of an audience of 1,000 entrepreneurs, developers, angel investors, venture and capitalists.

Our first competition and an amazing opportunity to pitch at the 1010 WINS Small Business $10k Challenge. This challenge focused on our ability to bring jobs to New York City and boost the small business culture. We were 1 out of 10 finalists from 200+ applicants!
